Patti LaBelle is an African-American singer who has been called the Godmother of Soul. Patti LaBelle started her career singing in a group named The BlueBelles. The BlueBelles earned national fame at The Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. In the 60's the group found some success with remakes of songs such as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," and the ballad "Down the Aisle (The Wedding Song)". In the 70's the group changed their name to "LaBelle," and pushed the limits with the lyrics of their music. Their 1974 release Nightbirds finally caught on with fans. They were the first group to play at the Metropolitan Opera House. But because of issues within the group. The "LaBelle" split in 1977.

Patti LaBelle had a No. 1 hit with "On My Own," sung with Michael MacDonald. Also, she hit the charts with songs such as 1984's "New Attitude" and "Stir It Up," as well as 1989's "If You Asked Me To." In 1991, LaBelle released Burnin', which went gold and landed the singer her first Grammy Award. In (1998) she came out with Live! One Night Only —which won Patti LaBelle her a second Grammy. In June of 2009, Patti LaBelle was honored yet again, with her induction into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame.

Patti LaBelle came out dancing and then told the crowd she was going to take her time and catch her breath. Saying she has been celebrating her birthday all year and just had turned 75 years of age. LaBelle performed some of the crowd favorites, "Somebody Loves you baby", "If only you knew", "If you asked me too", and her group LaBelle's french classic "Voulez Vous Coucher Avec Moi Ce Soir". It was a great evening that was worth witnessing one of our Musical Legends & Pillars perform some of her timeless classics live.
